Site ESH Manager – Bechtel

Responsibilities

- Reporting to the Project Environment Safety and Health (ESH) Manager, the Site ESH Manager represents the Royal Commission (the client), to ensure the ESH standards of the project are met. You will be responsible for supervising the on-site safety professionals, ensuring they can successfully fulfill their duties to ensure the health and safety of all project participants is maintained. Your role will be to champion ESH on site and continuously drive a positive safety culture - leading by example, coaching employees, personnel and contractors and providing timely advice and support to your team. You will also be required to coordinate and forecast training and assurance activities with site-based operations based on risk.
- Ensure all site safety planning, clearance certificates, permits to work and assurance planning are in place and effective
- Provide technical assistance to site construction team, contractor supervision and contractor Health and Safety team
- Proactive leadership and presence in field to support the successful delivery of project by coaching and leading the project leadership engagement program and facilitate peer engagements and coach contractors
- Provides guidance to team with respect to integration and compliance with project safety requirements
- Provides technical support to and review of project risk assessments and work plans
- Site assurance activities and reporting
- Review of contractor work packages and HSE readiness
- Supervision of Field Leadership observations and reporting
- Review of path of risk (90 / 60 / 30 day look ahead)
- Update ES&H plans, project specific risk reduction plans, safety awareness training programs, and technical reports
- Provide recommendations and input for revising safety procedures, work processes, and other improvement measures
- Conduct safety inspections/assessments of project construction activities to monitor compliance with applicable safety and health requirements including contractual commitments, permits, and the ESH Manual

Requirements:

- Degree in Occupational Safety and Health or relevant engineering qualification
- Formal qualifications in environmental and/or safety engineering, process safety, health or related discipline
- Demonstrated experience in civil construction in a safety role with experience in supervising teams
- Committed to maintaining a strong health and safety approach which is in line with the Bechtel zero accidents philosophy and is able to provide leadership for safe work procedures and safety related matters
