Job Description
The Senior Pharmacist assists in directing day-to-day operations. The Senior Pharmacist is the care giver responsible for clinically reviewing medication orders from prescribers and providing medication consultations to patients to optimize their care. The Senior pharmacist ensures the maintenance of efficient pharmacy operations, customer satisfaction, and regulatory compliance. The Senior Pharmacist serves as a Pharmacy resource for Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Medical and Nursing staff, as well as other Healthcare Professionals. The Senior pharmacist must comply with all the rules governing the role of a pharmacist as issued by the State of Qatar.
Responsibilities
- Supervises, lead and assist in the daily activities of the staff.
- Performs professional work in the compounding and dispensing of medications.
- Reviews and interprets physician’s drug orders for clarity, rationality, dosage form, allergies, interactions, incompatibility, etc. and makes recommendations to prescribers if changes are required.
- Supervises Pharmacy workflows (UD) and automation systems such as ADC’s and EMR.
- Maintains control and security of all drugs including dispensing, record keeping and secured storage of narcotics and controlled medications.
- Provides medication counseling to patients and families.
- Checks medications prepared by Pharmacy Technicians for accuracy prior to dispensing.
- Assists in supporting Pharmacy preceptorship with students and external trainees.
- Documents procurement, distribution and dispensing of medications in an accurate manner.
- Liaises with other Healthcare Professionals to ensure the delivery of safe, and effective treatments.
- Procures medications from Hamad Medical Store, and other local or overseas medication suppliers.
- Follows all related Naufar policies and procedures.
- Manages inventory in the pharmacy to ensure adequate stock is always available.
- Monitors drug usage and reports to the Director of Pharmacy Acts as primary contact point for Naufar staff in relation to Pharmacy issues. Liaises with Pharmacy Senior Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technicians to maintain and update Pharmacy stock.
- Ensures medications are stored securely and appropriately.
- Promotes and maintains quality in all services and ensure continuous quality improvement measures are in place.
- Carries out Pharmacy controlled drug checks. Assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
- Documents all interventions and medication errors.
