Job Description

Reporting to the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Research (DVCAAR), the Senior External Relations Specialist (SERS) is required to identify and liaise with the suitable local, national and international entities (educational, business, professional etc.) to drive the deployment of the Strategic Plan and relevant strategies of A ‘Sharqiyah University (ASU).

The SERS is both internally and externally oriented role. The SERS will be responsible for coordinating with colleges and other units at ASU to identify the needs of colleges, various units and the University and to strategically manage and seize opportunities that will enhance the profile and reputation of the University.

Responsibilities
The SERS carries out the administrative and support activities and shall be responsible for:

  • Assisting the DVCAAR in implementation and evaluation of the Internationalization and Industry and Community Engagement (ICE) Strategies of the University.
  • Serving as a Secretary to the ICE Committee of the University and other University Committees.
  • Coordinating and integrating the strategic initiatives and actions among all colleges, academic and non-academic departments, and support units.
  • Maintaining effective working relationships with Government officials, and existing community, national and international industrial and educational partners of the University.
  • Establishing and developing new networks and contacts with the external community and the local and international business entities including the higher education institutions.
  • Liaising with colleges and other units of the University in identifying the potential areas for cooperation with other external business entities including educational institutions.
  • Seeking collaborative activities and working towards continuous improvement by creating memorandums of understanding and other agreements with the national and international business entities and educational institutions.
  • Identifying opportunities for promoting the University and its services within the national and international community through participation in innovative initiatives.
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with professional institutions and professional accreditation and ranking bodies.
  • Assisting the DVCAAR in the University’s preparation for the Institutional Standards Assessment, Qualifications Listing and Program Accreditations.
  • Assisting the DVCAAR in the University’s preparation and applications for various HEI Rankings and recognition outside the Sultanate of Oman.
  • Assisting the DVCAAR in the planning and support of university events including major university conferences, industrial visits, graduation ceremony, university day, etc.
  • Maintaining accurate records and files pertaining to local and international organizations.
  • Keeping abreast of developments in the field by undertaking horizon scanning of Higher Education sectors and by engaging in professional development activities.
  • Contributing to the development, review and effective implementation of university policies and procedures.
  • Contributing to the operational plan and annual report of the DVCAAR.
  • Providing support to academic leadership as and when required.
  • Assisting the DVCAAR in discharging his day-to-day activities.

Performing other duties as assigned by the DVCAAR.

Experience

  A minimum of 5 years of related work experience, preferably in University or College

  • Excellent command of English.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; with demonstrated ability to establish and develop productive and collegial working relationships, collaboration, and communication with all stakeholders.
  • Excellent time management skills with demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, prioritize, and effectively execute multiple initiatives, programs, and events, and meet established deadlines.

Qualification

  A Master’s degree in any discipline where English is the medium of instruction.
