Job Description
Safety Manager shall be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing safety programs within an organization to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
He / she will manage implementation of Procedures, Health and Safety policies and procedures and to ensure alignment with corporate, requirements and best practices to support the development of a safe environment on in the Company and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement safety policies and procedures to comply with local, state, and federal regulations. Ensure that these policies align with the organization's goals and objectives.
- Stay informed about relevant safety regulations and standards and ensure that the organization complies with them.
- This includes conducting regular audits and assessments to identify and address any compliance issues. Identify potential hazards in the workplace through regular risk assessments.
- Develop strategies to minimize or eliminate these risks and implement control measures to enhance safety.
- Develop and conduct safety training programs for employees to ensure they are aware of potential hazards and understand safety protocols.
- This may include training on the proper use of equipment, emergency procedures, and the importance of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, or near misses to determine the root cause and implement corrective actions.
- Develop and implement emergency response plans for various scenarios, such as fires, chemical spills, or natural disasters.
- Conduct drills and training exercises to ensure employees are prepared for emergencies.
- Communicate safety policies, procedures, and updates to all levels of the organization.
- Foster a culture of safety awareness and encourage employees to actively participate in maintaining a safe work environment.
- Maintain accurate records related to safety, including incident reports, training records, and safety inspection documentation.
- Collaborate with other departments, managers, and employees to promote a comprehensive approach to safety.
- Continuously assess and improve safety programs based on performance metrics, industry best practices, and feedback from employees.
- Stay informed about advancements in safety technology and practices.
Skills
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science, industrial hygiene, engineering, or a related field is often required.
- Professional certifications Osha / Nebosh shall be an added advantage,
- Proven experience of 5 – 7 years as Safety Manager Knowledge of emergency response procedures and training is crucial. Knowledge of local regulatory H&S requirements.
- Familiarity with safety management software and tools for data analysis and reporting.
- Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations and standards.
- Knowledge of industry-specific safety requirements.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey safety policies and procedures.
- Ability to manage and lead safety committees or teams.
- Ability to conduct thorough investigations into accidents or near misses.
- Strong attention to detail for conducting safety inspections and audits.
- High ethical standards and integrity in dealing with safety issues.
