Job Description

Being an Operating Room Supervisor supervises the procurement and maintenance of equipment and supplies, staffing and training of employees, and budgeting. May oversee pre- and post-operative care of patients. Additionally, Operating Room Supervisor requires a bachelor’s degree or in a related area.

Responsibilities
  • 1. Formulates objectives for the unit, sets plan of actions that will ensure optimum nursing care to each patient through co-ordination of the staff efforts.
  • 2. Assign duties for nursing staff in the unit on acuity requirements
  • 3. Ensures nursing practices is in line with the hospital nursing policies and procedures, providing guidance and support to Nursing staff on all clinical issues.
  • 4. Readily coordinate with the other departments in the interest of good working practice and patient care.
  • 5. Acts as a role model to all staff. Display leadership, motivation and professional qualities at all times.
  • 6. Works in the Professional Code of Conduct at all times.
  • 7. Responsible for ongoing professional development
  • 8. Culturally sensitive to all patients/staff.
  • 9. Implements Quality initiatives as requested by Quality department and Nursing Department.
  • 10. Monitors standards of practice as per NHRA requirements by doing audits as requested.
  • 11. Initiates and develop new ideas in the operation theatre.
  • 12. Participates in continues education and in teaching of new staff nurses.
  • 13. Participates in nursing services committees and conducts meeting with co-workers and all staff.
  • 14. Develops his / her carrier and updates knowledge and skills related to nursing care.
  • 15. Reports any major incident to the head of the department.

Participates in disaster event in accordance of his/her role described in the disaster manual

  • 1. Implements, evaluates, and gives feedback on the introduction of new equipments, supplies and procedures.
  • 2. Maintains effective theatre inventory, record and control overspent expenditure.
  • 3. Requests, control supplies and ensures maintenance of equipments.
  • 4. Maintains controlled drugs and valuables.
  • 5. Maintain safety of patients and others.
  • 6. Maintain patient privacy and quiet environment.
  • 7. Ensures applying universal precautions procedures among Hepatitis, VDRL, MRSA and AIDS patients to prevent spread of infection.
  • 8. Performs correct and accurate Time Attendance (TAS) date entry on monthly basis and verify information at the end of the month.
  • 9. Co-ordinates leave for theatre staff and prepare staff duty rosters.
  • 10. Checks and ensures nursing documentation is accurately recorded.
  • 11. Scrub when needed.
