Job Description
The Medical Physicist will calibrate Radiation Physics equipment calibration and commissioning, clinical support, maintenance in compliance with radiation safety and licensing issues. They will implement quality control procedures for imaging devices and therapeutic equipment and perform dose calculations and verifications and quality assurance testing for patient treatment plans. They will be responsible for weekly chart checks, as well as developing and maintaining Radiation Therapy Safety procedures in compliance with all regulations. The Physicist is required to participate in the Radiation Safety Committee.
Responsibilities
- • Responsible for the systematic measurement, documentation, and assurance of the physical and dosimetric aspects of all radioactive sources/radiation producing equipment used in Radiation Safety.
- Performs acceptance testing and commissioning of all treatment-related equipment under supervision, this includes calibration of all radiation producing sources and maintenance of all information for their appropriate use.
- Develops and maintains quality assurance testing for all radiation therapy treatment modalities.
- Demonstrates competency in Medical Physicist with the ability to carry out highly complex assignments.
- Performs routine clinical duties, acceptance testing, and commissioning of new equipment or procedures as it relates to Radiation Therapy.
- Works closely with the team and Physicians in all aspects of treatment planning, QA, and patient treatment, and/or as necessary.
- In collaboration with the team, responsible for the development of treatment plans, acquisition, and storage of data for treatment plans, calculation of dose distributions and machine settings for treatment delivery.
- Provides treatment planning and/or assistance and Radiation Safety when performing any LDR or HDR Brachytherapy procedures, and/or any associated treatment planning.
- Assists Therapists with CT simulations, setups, and verification simulations as necessary.
- Complies with Nuclear Regulatory Commission guidelines, provides appropriate teaching to patients and families as deemed necessary by the Manager Imaging.
- Continues to keep abreast of latest developments pertaining to current practices within the field of Radiation Safety.
- Performs some organization and administration skills in the clinical practice of Radiation Safety.
- Performs other assignments as may be required by the Manager Imaging and Administration.
