Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Equine Veterinarian to join our veterinary team in Muscat, Oman. The ideal candidate will have a passion for equine health and wellness, and will provide expert care and medical treatment to horses and other equine animals. The Equine Veterinarian will play a crucial role in maintaining the health and well-being of our equine patients and will contribute to the overall success of our veterinary practice.
Responsibilities
The role of the ideal candidate will revolve around all aspects of general equine practice including but not limited to the following:
- Equine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation
- Equine Internal Medicine
- Equine Surgery
- Equine Diagnostic Imaging
- Equine Breeding
- Practice Management
As part of the responsibilities the ideal candidate should be able to:
- Conduct thorough examinations and assessments of horses and other equine animals to diagnose and treat medical conditions and injuries
- Perform routine and emergency medical procedures.
- Develop comprehensive treatment plans and provide ongoing care and support to equine patients, including monitoring recovery and rehabilitation
- Collaborate with other veterinary professionals and support staff to ensure the highest standards of care and client satisfaction
- Educate and advise horse owners and trainers on best practices for equine health, nutrition, and preventive care
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation of all patient consultations, examinations, treatments, and procedures
- Stay updated on the latest advancements in equine veterinary medicine and participate in continuing education and professional development activities
Detailed Responsibilities:
Equine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation:
- Comprehensive Lameness examination, use of conventional and regenerative therapies for tendons, ligaments and joint injuries, customized rehabilitation plan with conventional treatments, controlled exercise, Pulsed Electromagnetic Therapy, Extra-corporeal Shock Wave Therapy, Stretching and Mesotherapy, Objective hoof assessment and radiographic guided therapeutic and routine foot care
Equine Internal Medicine:
- Evaluation and management of medical-grade colic, equine respiratory and metabolic disorders, Equine ophthalmology with direct ophthalmoscopy, broncho-alveolar lavage, microbial culture, and antibiotic sensitivity testing, routine hematological, pathobiological indoor laboratory tests, and management of pregnant mares and foal care
Equine Surgery:
- Local analgesia, wound management with conservative and interventional therapies, general anesthesia (injectable and gaseous with anesthesia machine), hernioplasty, valvuloplasty, castration, splint application, enucleation, tenectomy/tenotomy, Sinosotomy and joint lavage, and diagnosis and management of laminitis, foot abscess, and pedal keratomas
Equine Diagnostic Imaging:
- Reproductive ultrasound, musculoskeletal ultrasound, objective ultrasound examination of equine tendons and ligaments, ultrasound-guided surgical and medical interventions
- Routine radiology of musculoskeletal system, abdomen, and other radio-accessible organs, contrast radiography, venography, Gastroscopy, Laryngoscopy, Bronchoscopy, endoscopic guided medical interventions and clinical use of Infra-red thermal imaging
Equine Breeding:
- Breeding soundness exam of mare and stallions, artificial insemination with frozen semen with Deep Horn Technique (DHT), ultrasound-guided evaluation of follicular dynamics, pregnancy diagnosis via trans-rectal and trans-abdominal ultrasonography, uterine lavage, diagnostic uterine cytology, Stallion reproductive ultrasonography, semen bank management, maternal and fetal dystocia, retained fetal membranes and estrous synchronization
Practice Management:
- Routine Inventory management with computer and cloud-based applications, development of customized health care programs, promotional material, and focused farm visits, event management for the representation of national and international events
- Financial reporting including accounts receivable, income reconciliation, credit, accounts payable and budgeting, Patient medical records, medical knowledge, and medical log management
- Client services including client communication, education, interaction, grief protocol, patient, and staff comfort and Community involvement.
Requirements:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree from an accredited veterinary school or equivalent and must have a valid veterinary practice license from the country of origin
- Licensed or eligible for licensure as a veterinarian in Oman, with a focus on equine veterinary practice
- Must have at least 5 years of proven experience and expertise in equine veterinary medicine, including diagnosing and treating a wide range of equine health issues and conditions
- Strong surgical skills and experience in performing a variety of equine surgical procedures
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, staff, and other veterinary professionals
- Passion for working with horses and a deep understanding of equine behavior, anatomy, and physiology
- Commitment to upholding the highest standards of ethical veterinary practice and animal welfare
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic veterinary environment, with a focus on delivering exceptional patient care and client service.
