Job Description

The Dental Assistant will be responsible for providing hands-on support to the dentists and completing prep work so they can care for patients more efficiently.

His/her duties include completing intake paperwork and updating patient records, sterilizing and organizing dental tools, and assisting during dental procedures.

Responsibilities

Works with the Dentist to ensure that patient care is appropriate and efficient.

Assists with all regulatory compliance (HIPPA, OSHA, emergency preparedness, infection control, etc.) for the Dentistry.

Assists the Dentist with scheduling and coordinating patient appointments.

Prepares the examination rooms for appointments by sterilizing instruments and ensuring all necessary equipment is ready for the dentist.

Requires exposure to potential pathogens during assisting and sterilization procedures.

Maintains logs for equipment maintenance and for other safety logs required by the Hospital and Department, for infection control.

Monitors and orders supply inventory.

Assists the dentist during their procedures by handing them instruments and anticipating their needs throughout the appointment.

Takes and processes X-rays of patients and uploads radiographs to the computer.

Pours and trims dental impressions and takes digital oral scans.

Fills orders for dental prosthetics, including dentures, bridges, crowns, veneers, and inlays.

Creates models of patients' mouths with plaster, wax, porcelain, metal, and hand tools from physical and sometimes computerized molds.

Coordinates appliances that are sent out to and received from laboratories and coordinates follow-up for all appliances and for patients who have appliances.

Responsible for greeting patients as they arrive, updating and maintaining client’s dental records, taking billing and insurance details from patients, submitting billing details to the insurance company.

Prepares and reviews insurance forms and processes department billing.

Advises patients on recommended oral hygiene.

Performs other duties as assigned.
