Job Description
The School Data Specialist is primarily responsible for managing MIS systems. With a key role in training staff to use the schools’ MIS. This role requires teamwork, good communication skills, the ability to act on your own initiative, attention to detail and an analytical and logical approach. The Data Specialist needs to be a motivated person with excellent IT skills to develop and maintain the high quality of data management system in the school.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the planning, development, design, organization, and monitoring of the MIS.
- Manage curriculum-related records and ensure proper allocation of subjects, classes, and staff records.
- Assist the SLT with timetabling and student class/set allocations.
- Facilitate the setup and monitoring of academic reports, liaising with academic staff as necessary.
- Ensure the accuracy and currency of the assessment and curricular information database.
- Generate reports and conduct analysis at the request of the SLT while maintaining strict confidentiality.
- Establish and maintain student tracking systems using centrally held spreadsheets and/or assessment module mark sheets as appropriate.
- Prepare statistical data to bolster school self-evaluation and accreditation processes.
- Develop and streamline the school's student personal profiles reporting system.
- Coordinate data collection and collation for student personal profiles, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
- Provide training and support to both academic and non-academic staff on MIS usage.
- Act as a single point of contact for the MIS provider, reporting and resolving software issues.
- Assist in developing and implementing standard operating procedures and best practices for MIS usage.
- Coordinate setup and maintenance of new MIS modules and user accounts as needed.
- Coordinate with SENCO and medical teams to maintain accurate SEN, IEP, and medical data.
- Import and manipulate assessment data, tracking and reporting any system faults.
- Provide feedback on system integrations and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
General Duties
- Undertake such other duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature as may be determined by SLT from time to time, in consultation with the post holder.
- Take reasonable care of the health and safety of self, other persons and resources whilst at work
- Co-operate with SLT as far as is necessary to enable the responsibilities placed upon the School under the Health and Safety at Work Act to be performed, e.g. operate safe working practices

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or equivalent. Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience in analysis and reporting of student data to monitor progress and attainment. Experienced in handling iSAMS as the student Management Information System (MIS) or any relevant system (SIMS, Engage, etc.) is a plus. Competencies:
