Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Application Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in power generation systems, including generator sets, switchgear, and auxiliary equipment. This role involves engineering solutions, designing customized systems, project coordination, and liaising with suppliers and the MTU factory to ensure successful project delivery.
Responsibilities
Application Engineering:
- Project Scope Definition: Study and interpret project documents (Project SLD, Specifications, Architectural/Electrical Drawings) to define the scope and requirements of power generation projects.
- Generator Sizing & Selection: Perform generator set sizing calculations for custom projects, utilizing both software tools and manual calculations to ensure proper selection and configuration.
- Designing Custom Solutions: Design and develop customized solutions based on the specific requirements of each project, ensuring technical feasibility and compliance with standards.
- Technical Offer Configuration: Configure technical offers using the MTU Portal and prepare complete costing sheets, including Balance of Plant materials.
- Supplier Coordination: Liaise with suppliers to ensure that all technical requirements are met and work closely with MTU factory to select the optimum rating/unit for the project.
- Technical Submittals: Prepare comprehensive technical submittals for client and consultant approval, ensuring all technical specifications and design details are included.
- Technical Clarifications: Address any technical clarifications and respond to comments on the technical scope and submittals.
- Order Placement: Place orders for equipment and components on the MTU System Portal, coordinating with the logistics and administrative teams to issue LOI (Letter of Intent) and LPO (Local Purchase Order) to suppliers.
- Offer Validity Management: Ensure the validity of supplier offers during the execution phase and maintain up-to-date pricing and technical details.
- Logistics Coordination: Work closely with the supplier and logistics teams to ensure timely delivery of equipment and materials according to agreed timelines.
- Site Execution Support: Oversee and regulate the execution of projects on-site, ensuring alignment with the confirmed scopes, with support from the Sales/Service Teams in Qatar.
Project Management:
- Project Planning: Design and develop project plans, timelines, and milestones for various power generation projects, ensuring alignment with project scope, client requirements, and internal resources.
- Project Coordination: Coordinate with internal teams, clients, consultants, and suppliers to ensure smooth execution of the project, from manufacturing to commissioning.
- Budget & Cash Flow Management: Track budgets and cash flow throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring cost-effectiveness and maximum value for money.
- Procurement & Contract Management: Manage procurement activities and contracts, including preparation of standards procedures, processes, flowcharts, BOQ, and other project documentation.
- Project Monitoring & Reporting: Monitor and communicate project status, risks, and performance to the power generation team and senior management, ensuring all objectives are met and delivered on time.
- Risk Management: Identify project risks, analyse potential issues, and implement mitigation measures or alternatives using quality tools and project management techniques.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure all projects meet health, safety, and environmental requirements, adhering to relevant regulations, standards, and legislation.
Skills
Desired Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- 5-7 years of experience working with power generation systems.
- Hands-on experience with generator sets, switchgear, power systems, and customized project solutions.
- Experience in technical offer configuration, supplier coordination, and order placement in a project execution context.
- Familiarity with engineering codes and regulations such as NFPA, NEC, and local codes.
- Strong knowledge of generator sizing, electrical design, and customized power generation solutions.
- Proficient in MTU System Portal and similar engineering software tools for configuring technical offers and managing procurement.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with clients, suppliers, consultants, and internal teams.
- Strong project management abilities, including planning, budgeting, risk management, and stakeholder coordination.
- Ability to travel as needed for site visits, project kick-off meetings, and consultant interactions.
- Fluency in Arabic is highly preferred.
